v$session is a view on single instance oracle databases and gv$session is for RAC environment

v$session is a view on single instance oracle databases and gv$session is for RAC environment.

gv$views are the same as v$views it is just that gv$views span across all nodes of a cluster. Each gv$view has a column called INST_ID which denotes the node to which the records belong.
